How to Wear a Bodysuit This Summer

What is promised is due. Last week I told you that I was going to choose a clothing piece and create three different looks with it. The piece I chose is a pink low-cut bodysuit. You may be wondering, “Why a bodysuit?” Keep reading and you will find out why. Since summer is almost here, I decided to play with the summer trends and incorporate them into the outfits.

Let’s begin!

Outfit #1

IMG_0641.jpg

This outfit consists of floral white pants with meshes along the legs and the protagonist of all my looks: the pink low-cut body. As I mentioned before, this attire includes a couple of summer trends such as high-waist and wide boot trousers. For the shoes, I selected a pair of Vince Camuto’s basic in a nude tone. Nudes and pastel colors are commonly used during spring and summer — take note, they are a MUST HAVE.  And bodysuits, let’s talk about bodysuits. They have been IN for a while now not only because they look great, but also because they are the most versatile clothing piece that you will ever have in your wardrobe. Bodysuits are chic, sexy, and simple.  They can be worn with a pair of jeans or pants – just like I am wearing them – or use them underneath of a camisole or blouse.

Since spring is ending and summer is about to begin what better way to welcome this new season than with this outfit! Floral fabrics were everywhere in the Fashion Week runways, as well as the different tones of blue and pink. Florals+high-waist trousers+bodysuits= The perfect look to say hi to summer.

Outfit #2

IMG_0547.jpg

The second outfit looks a lot like the first one. The difference? There are not printed fabrics, only unicolor clothing pieces. Here I used a summer essential: white. White is a color that I wear with everything. From sneakers to sunglasses. Of course, I couldn’t leave it out of this post. This look is a little bit more elegant than the previous one due to the fall of the pants. Waist height and waist cinchers with a wide boot, sound familiar? The Zara’s white pants are an icon this season.

For the shoes, I used the same Vince Camuto’s nude heels because I believe they look nice with the pink tone of the bodysuit. And the band around my ankle stylizes the shape of my legs. This type of outfit can be used for many occasions, such as cocktail parties, happy hours or a fancy brunch with bottomless mimosas in Coral Gables. Your choice!

Outfit #3

IMG_0674.jpg

The third and last outfit is quite different. Here, I played with textures, line cuts, and low cuts. I wanted to create a greater contrast, so I wore black. A black leather high-waist short and a long black jacket. This type of short is a handy tool when you want to highlight your waistline, or in those days that your belly is a little more swollen than usual. It will keep you on point!

IMG_0657

On the other hand, the jacket adds elegance to the outfit but still is kind of casual. The heels are made of a colorful printed fabric. Orange, magenta, bright purple, beige and blue. This palette of colors goes well with the season. All of them are bright and trending. This look is all about summer evenings!

IMG_0681.jpg

So why make a bodysuit the protagonist of the three looks? The answer is quite simple, bodysuits go well with everything. And when I say everything, I mean it. Since they are tight, they go perfectly fine under pants, shorts, skorts or skirts. There are turtleneck bodysuits and others with a low-cut in the back. This is a clothing piece that you can wear in all seasons. For me, this one is a keeper.

This is how we can “recycle” our clothing pieces without repeating the same outfit even when using the same piece. Creativity is key.

Hope you like it! I would love to see some of your ideas!

Why fashion repeats itself?

Hello, hello!

You know that I always tell you that fashion is not static, but the opposite — it evolves and then comes back again. Well, today I decided to explain in detail the reason why this happens, my personal perception. And teach you how we can recycle the past trends and use them in our favor.

I’m sure you have heard your mom saying, “I used to have one of those when I was younger,” Or even inherit some of her old clothing pieces. I know I have! There is a black and white blouse that I absolutely love, and every time I wear it people ask me where did I get it from. Funny, right?

This happens because fashion follows a cycle. During the seasonal runways, several styles and trends are being introduced to the public. This is the initial phase where the clothing pieces are presented for the first time. This stage is key because designers are waiting for the public’s response, and they want to see if their proposal was liked or not. In most cases, it is liked, even loved, so the game begins — we go into the second stage.

Now, the demand increases, the sales are higher, and the prices go up too. Suddenly, there are popular trends and styles that everybody wants to wear. Of course, adding our own personal glow; you know what I’m talking about. Once the peak has been reached, the trend goes down, and sales decrease until the pieces following that trend are taken out of the market. People got bored of them, or they simply were not IN anymore.

This stage is just a part of the process, nothing personal. But don’t worry, eventually, the same trend that was once forgotten will rise again. Now, a new cycle begins and a new trend is introduced. The market never stops — like a clock.

Since I know this, and I know that everything that goes away comes again, I don’t throw any of my old clothes. I rather keep it for later. That’s what I call recycling! Instead of buying the same shirt or short that I used to have but got rid of it, I save it until I can use it again. Don’t get me wrong. I’m always trying to add new and innovative clothing pieces to my wardrobe, but always things that I have NEVER shopped before.

I like to combine the old trends with the new ones and create a totally different look. It may result in an avant-garde outfit or an extravagant boho attire. Who knows? Always stay creative. That’s the best advice I can give you. Don’t limit yourself to textures nor colors. Play around! Have fun!

Here’s a challenge. Grab a clothing piece from your closet and create three different looks with the same piece. Let’s see how creative you can be!

Next week I’ll show you mine!

Metallic & Movement

IC3A4501.jpg

Hello, hello!

I hope you’re all doing well. Today’s outfit represents one of my favorite trends: gold and silver. I don’t know if you have noticed, but 2016 is not over, not just yet. Those who were able to see the runways during fall 2016 probably know that the silver-gold trend is still on point. That’s why I decided to incorporate it into my look.

In addition, the maxi dresses have been IN for months, and I have the hunch that they will remain a little longer. This outfit is risky and glamorous; let’s get into it!

First of all, the maxi dress is made of a silky fabric in a silver color. The under-knee dresses are everywhere now. They are a great and simple option to create an elegant and different outfit. Here, I played with the accessories. Since I wanted to create a contrast between silver and gold, I added the gold chain belt. This item not only enhanced my waistline but also highlighted the dress. Enhancing the silhouette is always a good idea. We are women; we have curves naturally. The key is learning how to be sexy without being tacky.

Long earrings are back! This piece was a protagonist in the runways. The crystal earrings are a must have during the spring season. I use long earrings when I want to highlight the shape of my face – my cheekbones for instance. When using this piece, I do not recommend to wear necklaces; we may wear a simple thin choker, but I prefer the belt as the partner piece.

IC3A4533.jpg

For the final touch, I wore a pair of “Gladiator” heels. Why? Because I wanted to create a different outfit, not something that you see everywhere. Since all the clothing pieces of my look were elegant, I challenged myself to make it urban, more casual. So these heels came to my mind. We all know that the gladiator trend has been a total success. Now, there are gladiator heels instead of sandals… who would have thought that? Anyways, the point here is that the heels make the outfit pop up. When you look at it from head to toes, you see an unexpected addition. I could have played on the safe side and have grabbed a regular pair of heels, but I didn’t. Avant-garde styles are my favorites. From my perspective, mixing and combining styles are key in fashion.

You are allowed to use everything that is within your reach to stand out. Fashion is not static; it evolves. Feel free to use and reuse any trend you like. In my case, I choose metallic and movement. That’s how I make them look twice!

Spring Essentials

petal

In 2014, Christopher Kane presented his collection at the New York Fashion Week — it was all about creativity and artfulness.  As usual, Kane made a provocative statement playing with nylon while creating new forms. The pink dress located in the right part of the image belonged to that collection. The sleeve is a long wave that surrounds the arm completely, and it had never been seen by anyone before.

Three years later, we see that this form has evolved into a tulip. More than that, the tulip shape is now a trend.

During the 2016 New York Fashion Week a lot of designers have presented their collections with this specific characteristic.

The Venezuelan designer, Carolina Herrera, incorporated this shape to her collection. She presented a series of strapless long dresses and skirts with floral prints that had the tulip form from waist down. The innovative thing? She also played with blue jeans — another clear statement of today’s fashion.

Moreover, Kaftan Usman was another designer who took possession of the petal trend. His collection displayed a variety of long skirts and pants with horizontal stripes in pastel colors. He also incorporated a vibrant orange to one of his sets. All of the pieces included the tulip form — no exception.

Moreover, here are a few trends that I’m sure you will like to incorporate into your spring wardrobe.

trends

As it can be seen, spring 2017 is synonymous with light blue, stripes and waistlines. Recently, fashion has gone to the 80’s and came back; now everything is about waist training and asymmetrical outfits. Once again we can see how trends change and evolve — always keeping their essence.

Next week, I will share a couple of outfits ideas using these trends!

Stay tuned!

The Streets are Full of Silk

Today, I wanted to talk to you about the lingerie trend, and how we can incorporate it into our wardrobe.

angi2.jpg

Most of you might be thinking, “Whaat? There’s no way I’m going to wear a silk camisole or a lingerie bra. She must be out of her mind!” But trust me, you will.

The streets are full of lingerie pieces. Now, women wear their underwear as outwear. Some of them use a black bra over a white t-shirt, others use transparent pieces with flamboyant brass, and the list keeps on and on.

I have personally decided to try this trend by wearing a silky body, a wavy short and a pair of silver boots. On the other hand, my beautiful friend is wearing a lingerie bra with a furry vest and a pair of jeans. The latest outfit is urban and casual… and sexy.

The color that prevails in my outfit is the black, so I played with the shapes, cuts, and necklines of the clothing pieces in order to make it interesting and different. As it can be seen, the body has a “V” neck shape with a low cut in the back, the short has multiple waves on both sides, and the jacket has a cut at the shoulders height. It seems like the clothing pieces belong together; more than that, they complement each other. This is a great way to keep the monochromatic and minimalist trend on point without being predictable.

Moreover, the silver boots with a zipper in the middle give a retro style to the look; zippers were a characteristic element in fashion during the 80’s. Boots are an amazing addition to this look. Why? Because they cover a partial part of the legs, which makes them look longer and more stylized. This outfit can be worn for a drinks night – ending up at a nightclub – or for any semi-casual occasion.

Then, there is the second outfit. Since a lingerie bra cannot be worn by itself, we decided to add some life to it. And the best way to do this is by mixing textures. The furry vest is a great alternative to give volume to the look and create movement. Now, the outfit is much more vivid! Also, jeans are always an amazing alternative when we want to keep our look casual. Since jeans are tight, they recreate the silhouette of the legs to perfection making us look slimmer. Here, the black tip shoes are the final touch! This type of shoes is elegant and goes well with almost everything. And when I say everything, I mean it!

Now, it seems like we will need to find a more accurate name for underwear because lately it has not been used underneath… If you know what I’m talking about.

Color Codes

oui

I know that since we were little, we have heard the phrase: “Those colors don’t look well together!”

Even my mom used to say to me: “Brown and black don’t get along.” But let’s think about that for a moment. Is the color rule real? Does it make sense? No, for me it doesn’t.

I believe that we can wear whichever color we want to, as long as we know HOW to wear it. That’s the key.

For instance, in this picture we see the outfit on the right, and we can notice that the pieces have red, pink and light blue. Most of people would say that is a terrible combination, but it works for me. First of all, pink and blue look great together because they are soft colors; they don’t overshadow each other, but they accompany one another. The red is the strongest color here; it’s the one that makes the greatest contrast in the outfit.

Moreover, the second proposal, located on the left side of the picture, has navy blue, a brownish red and champagne color. These colors are the opposite, but they work well together. Why? Because each of them shines due to their uniqueness. In addition, the pattern of the pants contains the three colors in one piece, so it looks like they belong together. The outfit seems natural and organic.

When it comes to fashion we have to be different — think different.

Mixing textures and colors is an amazing way to provide vivacity to the outfit. The variety of fabrics, patterns, colors and shapes give originality to our look.

So we can’t be afraid to use colors to our advantage; they are there for our own use!

So please do me a favor and come up with the craziest and greatest combination ever.

Much love.
