A Stylish Way to Wear The Bell Sleeve Trend

Aren’t you in love with the bell sleeve trend and all its variations? Me too! I think is because it’s retro but at the same time feminine and chic. The one that I am wearing today it’s more like a tiered-bell-sleeve blouse in a pastel blue. As I have told you before, pastel colors, retro trends, and movement are all IN this summer.

We can also expect to see this trend in pants. Instead of having a skinny end, the pants open at the bottom with a wide boot forming the bell shape. If you would like to get a better idea of how they look like, check out this spring post that I published a few months ago.

Getting back to business,  let’s see today’s marvelous outfit!

First of all, we have a white pompous skort from Akira boutique with a tiered bell sleeve blue blouse. This skort has two layers giving volume and movement to the look. Also, it’s high waist and outlines the figure. This clothing piece is pretty versatile. We can create a casual outfit by combining it with a denim cropped top or a more formal one by wearing a floral blouse or a bell sleeve shirt like I am doing it.

The Zara’s tiered-bell-sleeve blouse is the protagonist of this outfit. It has two strips that must be tied from behind forming a bow – cute detail. The blue pastel color of the blouse allows us to combine it with lots of clothing. I have worn it with floral pants, jeans, and white trousers. I have even worn it for work! Now, it’s time to play with accessories!

Accessories can make a huge difference in an outfit. They can transform a very simple look into an extravagant, breathtaking one. Here, I wore a pair of gold and silver long earrings because the neckline of my blouse it’s closed and tight. Otherwise, I would have chosen a necklace.

Since the palette of colors includes pastel tones, this outfit is better for events with day light, or it could also work for a happy hour in Brickell. It’s Thursday, so I think I will go for the second option!

Denim & Street Style

Hello, hello!

I don’t know if you have realized but maxi dresses and maxi skirts are taking the streets. More than that, the denim trend is still IN and it has many variations. Jean skirts are everywhere this summer, and I must admit that I’m obsessed with that trend. I find it super chic and easy to wear.

Guess what? The outfit that I prepared for you today has a denim maxi skirt! The moment I saw this fabulous skirt, I fell for it. I loved the triangular opening in the center, best part… it’s high waist! Sounds too good to be true, right? hahaha but it’s true. Promise! Then, I combined it with a wine violet bodysuit with a low cut in the back. The nicest detail of this piece is the little aperture that has at the bottom.

Getting into the accessories. I chose a pair of Katherine Cordero’s earrings and a classic brown belt to make some contrast. Katherine Cordero’s jewelry is one of a kind. She makes hand-crafted pieces with a cultural background. If you don’t know her work, don’t worry. I will tell you every single detail of her career and her collections in a new category that I’m planning to open SOON.

For the shoes, I chose a pair of gray wedges to make an entrance from bottom to top. This type of heels is a great to enhance the appearance of the legs. They make the legs look toned.

I like this outfit because it’s casual and different. The contrast between the dark colors and the light denim is visually appealing and attracts attention immediately. I hope you find it inspirational and come up with different street style outfits!

Who Said that Runway Outfits Were Out of Reach?

The Miami Fashion Week took place a few weeks ago, and the Swim Week is about to start. So I decided to compile some of the trends that I saw on the runways, especially the proposals of Custo Barcelona and Shantall Lacayo. And there’s nothing that I enjoy most than observing other girls’ outfits to get some inspiration. As I told you before, white is a color that you cannot take out of your sight this summer. One of the outfits that I liked consisted of a white high-waist skirt with a white cropped top and a long gray open shirt combined with a pair of black stilettos. Since that kind of fashion is usually considered a luxury – way too expensive for our recent graduate’s wallet – I came up with a budget-friendly outfit that follows that concept.

As you can see, the cropped top is a crochet type piece, which is really IN this season. Accompanied by a white “skort” – a skirt/short – and a pair of heels made of a colorful fabric. The pieces are pretty similar to the original outfit so you can get the essence of the style.

I got the crochet cropped top from Tiger Mist, an Australian online boutique. Lucky me, I bought it for $30 during a sale. The bottom I got it from Akira, a Chicago-based shopping store. This “skort” was even a better deal. I purchased it for $25.  And last but not least, I bought the heels in Steve Madden.

This is just an example of how we can adopt runway trends and outfits in different ways without going bankrupt. The style is owned girls, not purchased.

How to Wear a Bodysuit This Summer

What is promised is due. Last week I told you that I was going to choose a clothing piece and create three different looks with it. The piece I chose is a pink low-cut bodysuit. You may be wondering, “Why a bodysuit?” Keep reading and you will find out why. Since summer is almost here, I decided to play with the summer trends and incorporate them into the outfits.

Let’s begin!

Outfit #1

This outfit consists of floral white pants with meshes along the legs and the protagonist of all my looks: the pink low-cut body. As I mentioned before, this attire includes a couple of summer trends such as high-waist and wide boot trousers. For the shoes, I selected a pair of Vince Camuto’s basic in a nude tone. Nudes and pastel colors are commonly used during spring and summer — take note, they are a MUST HAVE.  And bodysuits, let’s talk about bodysuits. They have been IN for a while now not only because they look great, but also because they are the most versatile clothing piece that you will ever have in your wardrobe. Bodysuits are chic, sexy, and simple.  They can be worn with a pair of jeans or pants – just like I am wearing them – or use them underneath of a camisole or blouse.

Since spring is ending and summer is about to begin what better way to welcome this new season than with this outfit! Floral fabrics were everywhere in the Fashion Week runways, as well as the different tones of blue and pink. Florals+high-waist trousers+bodysuits= The perfect look to say hi to summer.

Outfit #2

The second outfit looks a lot like the first one. The difference? There are not printed fabrics, only unicolor clothing pieces. Here I used a summer essential: white. White is a color that I wear with everything. From sneakers to sunglasses. Of course, I couldn’t leave it out of this post. This look is a little bit more elegant than the previous one due to the fall of the pants. Waist height and waist cinchers with a wide boot, sound familiar? The Zara’s white pants are an icon this season.

For the shoes, I used the same Vince Camuto’s nude heels because I believe they look nice with the pink tone of the bodysuit. And the band around my ankle stylizes the shape of my legs. This type of outfit can be used for many occasions, such as cocktail parties, happy hours or a fancy brunch with bottomless mimosas in Coral Gables. Your choice!

The third and last outfit is quite different. Here, I played with textures, line cuts, and low cuts. I wanted to create a greater contrast, so I wore black. A black leather high-waist short and a long black jacket. This type of short is a handy tool when you want to highlight your waistline, or in those days that your belly is a little more swollen than usual. It will keep you on point!

On the other hand, the jacket adds elegance to the outfit but still is kind of casual. The heels are made of a colorful printed fabric. Orange, magenta, bright purple, beige and blue. This palette of colors goes well with the season. All of them are bright and trending. This look is all about summer evenings!

So why make a bodysuit the protagonist of the three looks? The answer is quite simple, bodysuits go well with everything. And when I say everything, I mean it. Since they are tight, they go perfectly fine under pants, shorts, skorts or skirts. There are turtleneck bodysuits and others with a low-cut in the back. This is a clothing piece that you can wear in all seasons. For me, this one is a keeper.

This is how we can “recycle” our clothing pieces without repeating the same outfit even when using the same piece. Creativity is key.

How to create a productive morning routine

Lately, I have been feeling that I don’t have enough time to do all the things I need to do. Since I started to work from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., my schedule is upside down and I’m not being as productive as I used to be. The four essential things in my life are work, exercise, my personal project, and the people I love. Every single one of them is necessary to go to bed with a smile from cheek to cheek.

Balance was a part of my daily life, but now I have days in which I only go to work, others in which I exercise, and others in which I spend most of the night awake working on my content, trying to provide helpful and entertaining posts for you.

I have come to the conclusion that I’m not being organized and realized that I spent more time thinking about the things that I needed to do than actually doing them. I imagine that I’m not the only one struggling with time management issues.

It’s the 21st century, no day has enough hours! As a result, I changed my monotonous mornings for a brand-new productive routine.

STEP 1: Rise and shine, gorgeous

I wake up at 6 a.m., brush my teeth, wash my face, and run to the kitchen. Are you thinking the same as me? COFFEE! Mornings cannot start on the right foot without coffee. That’s a fact! Since I’m training in the mornings, I only eat a banana with almond butter, and after my workout, I prepare a big nutritious and delicious breakfast. Bananas are great as pre-workout. They fuel you with energy and don’t give you a feeling of heaviness in the stomach.

STEP 2: Time to get serious

As I mentioned before, exercise is a MUST in my life. My day is not complete until I workout. It makes me feel relaxed and full of energy to keep up with my day. What I usually do now is either train at my house’s gym or go to a spinning class. If I train at home, I do weight lifting. Depending on the day, I will train legs, triceps, biceps, abs, shoulders or back. I firmly believe that all muscles should be trained – yes, ladies. You heard well. At the end of the day, we use every single one of our muscles, and we must strengthen them.

On the other hand, if I decide to go to spinning, the dynamic changes. Spinning classes focus on burning fat and are a great way to do cardio. For me, it’s really hard to spend 45 mins on the same machine doing the same thing, even if I’m listening to my favorite playlist. That’s why I try to take classes that motivate me to keep going and finish my 45-50 mins of cardio. Since I need to take a shower and go to work after my training session, I only train for 45 mins.

STEP 3: Breakfast is served

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day! I truly enjoy cooking it and devouring it, especially after an intense workout. I tend to have arepas for breakfast at least three times a week, not only because they are delicious, but also because they are a time-saving option. What I do to save time is preparing the arepa’s mix (corn meal, ground flax seed, and roasted plantain or butter squash) during the weekend. These aren’t the original arepas, but I like to personalize them by mixing different flavors and adding fiber. I make approximately 20-30 arepas, I pre-cook them, and then I wrap them with plastic wrap. Now, I only need to take one, put it in the oven…and ta-ta! Breakfast is served and ready to eat.

Then, I take the half hour that I have left and organize my day. I scratch the things that I’ve already done, I highlight the urgent ones that I haven’t done yet, and lastly, I add the ones that I’m planning to do. In that way, I can look at the whole picture — past, present, and future.

My recommendation here is to think clearly. Clarity is the new clever. Even if you don’t have everything figure out – current status – you will take things out of your way by only knowing what to do with a few.

STEP 4: Playing dress-up!

I used to spend HOURS in front of my closet deciding what or what not to wear. Guess what? That CANNOT happen! Those are 20 mins, 50 mins, completely wasted! Now, I select my outfit the night before, and I leave everything ready for the next day — lesson learned.

I try to keep my makeup pretty simple. Some blush and highlighter on my cheeks, mascara, and a little color on my lips. That’s it! Looks professional and is not overwhelming.

This routine takes approximately 1 hour and a half, but I get to do everything I need to have a wonderful day. After work, I can have dinner with my boyfriend, or pamper myself and get my nails done, or simply keep working on my passion and plan my next move.

I highly recommend having a productive routine that keeps you focus and on time.

Here are 5 tips to start creating your own routine

  • Get as much as sleep as you can. Try to sleep at least 8 hours.
  • Go to bed early. In that way, you can take advantage of your mornings and have things ready sooner.
  • Develop a routine that meets your necessities. What’s important for you? What are you trying to achieve? Write down what you need to do and then organize it.
  • Set up alarms in order to control the time you spend on each task. After a while, this won’t be necessary. You will get used to following your routine.
  • Plan! Plan ahead your routine, not the minute after you wake up. In that way, you will be able to do it in zombie mode if necessary. That’s the best part of having a routine!

Memorial Weekend: Last-minute Getaway

As we all know, Memorial weekend is around the corner. And what does that mean? A short vacay! Wohoo! Sounds good, right? But if you are like I am, and you take forever to make a decision and finally book a flight ticket to somewhere, you are already late.

According to a Times Union’s article written by Eric Anderson, the highways and hotels will be busier than ever, and more people will fly. AAA is predicting 39.3 million people traveling 50 miles or more, which is the highest figure since 2005. I mentioned this fact because of two reasons. First, we need to be conscious about our budget and see how much we are willing to spend on a three-day trip. And second, we should dig into other options. Even though we are late, we can still have an awesome weekend.

I have thought about three different and budget friendly options that we can do.

1- Camping on the beach

Miami is full of beautiful beaches that permit camping. The one that I recommend is located in Oleta River State Park, North Miami. This place has several islands that have enough space to set up the whole camp, and they are pretty private. Also, this park has kayaking! One of my favorite outdoor activities. We can do kayaking while watching the sunset on the beach. At night, make a bonfire and cook some marshmallows to eat delicious s’mores. And finally, have a nice breakfast with the sun rising.

2- Go on a road trip!

What better way to enjoy a weekend than going on a road trip with all your friends? Florida is a state that has many exciting cities. For those of us who live in Miami, Orlando, Gainesville, Naples, Jacksonville, are places nearby. Since all these cities are close to each other, we can easily visit more than one. We could book a hotel in Jacksonville, and on Sunday drive to St. Augustine – the oldest city in the United States. This city is known for the Spanish castle San Marcos and its beautiful and relaxing beaches.

3- Meet our city

I have lived in Miami for almost three years. There are so many places that I haven’t gone yet, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. This weekend can be a great opportunity to explore the wonderful places that we haven’t visited because of lack of time, or work, or whatever the reason is.  Why don’t we make a list of the top 5 places that we are dying to visit here in Miami? I’ll start!
