How to Wear a Jumper This Season

There is a clothing piece that cannot be missed in your wardrobe this season. Do you know which one am I referring to? Yes, the jumper.

During the last couple of years, jumpers have become a fashion statement. They are classy, fashionable and easy to wear. And now with the sweaters dress trend, they are more IN than ever. This autumn we can see cozy sweaters, long jumpers, voluminous dresses, and sometimes everything at once. The palette of colors that predominate are navy blue, gray, violet, brown, orange, and black. And let’s not forget about prints! For those of you who are afraid to combine too many colors, prints are the solution. They allow you to wear several colors in one clothing piece.

Let’s see how to wear a jumper this season!

Since monochromatic and minimalist are a powerful trend today, I decided to keep it simple but still making a style impact. The principal clothing piece is made of wool and looks like an over-sized gray sweater that resulted in a jumper with two huge pockets on the front. It has a wide slit in the laterals, so I took a fashion risk and wore a lingerie bra underneath. I could have easily worn a white t-shirt or bodysuit, but since the jumper was so old-school, I decided to use something different in order to escape from that look and make it more trendy.

To match the lingerie bra, I wore a black lingerie choker. Chokers make us look slimmer, more stylized. That’s why I think is a great addition to this fall outfit.

For the final touch, I chose a type of black leather loafers. These shoes are avant-garde and really trendy right now. I believe they go perfect together because they have the same vintage vibe. I like to use this outfit to go to dinner with my friends, or to the mall, or even to have a couple of drinks during happy hour. It’s versatile, fashionable and comfy.

Wearing a jumper is pretty simple. They basically do all the job for us. But if you would like to make a fashion statement, then you need to think out of the box and add accessories, eccentric shoes, or belts. Wear them like you own them.

Here, I will leave you another post of how to wear a bodysuit in case you need more outfit inspo. Three different looks with just one clothing piece!

Let me know what you think!

Miami Swim Week 2017

Miami Swim Week 2017 is here!

On Friday, July 21st, Silvia Ulson introduced her 2018 collection to the public at the W on South Beach, Miami. This resort collection included the denim trend that I have mentioned in the past, as well as high-waist swimsuits in silver, gold, and navy blue.

The Brazilian designer played with fabrics made of different materials such as crochet. Most of the swimsuits were one piece with pronounced necklines, and the models had head wraps with fruit details. Also, the models wore pink and red sandals with long laces intertwined resembling gladiators. The entire look was an amazing vision.

Another of my favorite collections in Miami Swim Week 2017 was KOA’s collection. This brand presented two-piece and one-piece basics in dark, nude, and pale pink tones. The fashion show began with a model wearing a bikini featuring sea shells as the top piece, while other two models pretended to be mermaids swimming in the W’s pool. The following designs were bikinis with V necklines, one-piece swimsuits with floral fabrics, and classic triangular bikinis in a dark green.

The last show of the night was KAOHS. KAOHS models looked like combat warriors wearing long fishnets and military boots. This collection was all about risky swim pieces in bright colors such as yellow, blue, red, and pink. The high-waist bikinis and V deep bottoms were the protagonists of the night. These are some of the most trendy features in swimwear right now, and we will see them everywhere next summer!

A Stylish Way to Wear The Bell Sleeve Trend

Aren’t you in love with the bell sleeve trend and all its variations? Me too! I think is because it’s retro but at the same time feminine and chic. The one that I am wearing today it’s more like a tiered-bell-sleeve blouse in a pastel blue. As I have told you before, pastel colors, retro trends, and movement are all IN this summer.

IMG_0976.jpg

We can also expect to see this trend in pants. Instead of having a skinny end, the pants open at the bottom with a wide boot forming the bell shape. If you would like to get a better idea of how they look like, check out this spring post that I published a few months ago.

Getting back to business,  let’s see today’s marvelous outfit!

IMG_0937 (1).jpg

First of all, we have a white pompous skort from Akira boutique with a tiered bell sleeve blue blouse. This skort has two layers giving volume and movement to the look. Also, it’s high waist and outlines the figure. This clothing piece is pretty versatile. We can create a casual outfit by combining it with a denim cropped top or a more formal one by wearing a floral blouse or a bell sleeve shirt like I am doing it.

The Zara’s tiered-bell-sleeve blouse is the protagonist of this outfit. It has two strips that must be tied from behind forming a bow – cute detail. The blue pastel color of the blouse allows us to combine it with lots of clothing. I have worn it with floral pants, jeans, and white trousers. I have even worn it for work! Now, it’s time to play with accessories!

Accessories can make a huge difference in an outfit. They can transform a very simple look into an extravagant, breathtaking one. Here, I wore a pair of gold and silver long earrings because the neckline of my blouse it’s closed and tight. Otherwise, I would have chosen a necklace.

Since the palette of colors includes pastel tones, this outfit is better for events with day light, or it could also work for a happy hour in Brickell. It’s Thursday, so I think I will go for the second option!

Stay tuned because next week I will share the details of Miami Swim Week!

Who Said that Runway Outfits Were Out of Reach?

The Miami Fashion Week took place a few weeks ago, and the Swim Week is about to start. So I decided to compile some of the trends that I saw on the runways, especially the proposals of Custo Barcelona and Shantall Lacayo. And there’s nothing that I enjoy most than observing other girls’ outfits to get some inspiration. As I told you before, white is a color that you cannot take out of your sight this summer. One of the outfits that I liked consisted of a white high-waist skirt with a white cropped top and a long gray open shirt combined with a pair of black stilettos. Since that kind of fashion is usually considered a luxury – way too expensive for our recent graduate’s wallet – I came up with a budget-friendly outfit that follows that concept.

Let’s check it out!

IMG_0727.jpg

As you can see, the cropped top is a crochet type piece, which is really IN this season. Accompanied by a white “skort” – a skirt/short – and a pair of heels made of a colorful fabric. The pieces are pretty similar to the original outfit so you can get the essence of the style.

I got the crochet cropped top from Tiger Mist, an Australian online boutique. Lucky me, I bought it for $30 during a sale. The bottom I got it from Akira, a Chicago-based shopping store. This “skort” was even a better deal. I purchased it for $25.  And last but not least, I bought the heels in Steve Madden.

This is just an example of how we can adopt runway trends and outfits in different ways without going bankrupt. The style is owned girls, not purchased.

Hope you find this helpful!

And stay tuned. I’ll bring inside details of Miami Swim Week!!

Much love.

How to Wear a Bodysuit This Summer

What is promised is due. Last week I told you that I was going to choose a clothing piece and create three different looks with it. The piece I chose is a pink low-cut bodysuit. You may be wondering, “Why a bodysuit?” Keep reading and you will find out why. Since summer is almost here, I decided to play with the summer trends and incorporate them into the outfits.

Let’s begin!

Outfit #1

IMG_0641.jpg

This outfit consists of floral white pants with meshes along the legs and the protagonist of all my looks: the pink low-cut body. As I mentioned before, this attire includes a couple of summer trends such as high-waist and wide boot trousers. For the shoes, I selected a pair of Vince Camuto’s basic in a nude tone. Nudes and pastel colors are commonly used during spring and summer — take note, they are a MUST HAVE.  And bodysuits, let’s talk about bodysuits. They have been IN for a while now not only because they look great, but also because they are the most versatile clothing piece that you will ever have in your wardrobe. Bodysuits are chic, sexy, and simple.  They can be worn with a pair of jeans or pants – just like I am wearing them – or use them underneath of a camisole or blouse.

Since spring is ending and summer is about to begin what better way to welcome this new season than with this outfit! Floral fabrics were everywhere in the Fashion Week runways, as well as the different tones of blue and pink. Florals+high-waist trousers+bodysuits= The perfect look to say hi to summer.

Outfit #2

IMG_0547.jpg

The second outfit looks a lot like the first one. The difference? There are not printed fabrics, only unicolor clothing pieces. Here I used a summer essential: white. White is a color that I wear with everything. From sneakers to sunglasses. Of course, I couldn’t leave it out of this post. This look is a little bit more elegant than the previous one due to the fall of the pants. Waist height and waist cinchers with a wide boot, sound familiar? The Zara’s white pants are an icon this season.

For the shoes, I used the same Vince Camuto’s nude heels because I believe they look nice with the pink tone of the bodysuit. And the band around my ankle stylizes the shape of my legs. This type of outfit can be used for many occasions, such as cocktail parties, happy hours or a fancy brunch with bottomless mimosas in Coral Gables. Your choice!

Outfit #3

IMG_0674.jpg

The third and last outfit is quite different. Here, I played with textures, line cuts, and low cuts. I wanted to create a greater contrast, so I wore black. A black leather high-waist short and a long black jacket. This type of short is a handy tool when you want to highlight your waistline, or in those days that your belly is a little more swollen than usual. It will keep you on point!

IMG_0657

On the other hand, the jacket adds elegance to the outfit but still is kind of casual. The heels are made of a colorful printed fabric. Orange, magenta, bright purple, beige and blue. This palette of colors goes well with the season. All of them are bright and trending. This look is all about summer evenings!

IMG_0681.jpg

So why make a bodysuit the protagonist of the three looks? The answer is quite simple, bodysuits go well with everything. And when I say everything, I mean it. Since they are tight, they go perfectly fine under pants, shorts, skorts or skirts. There are turtleneck bodysuits and others with a low-cut in the back. This is a clothing piece that you can wear in all seasons. For me, this one is a keeper.

This is how we can “recycle” our clothing pieces without repeating the same outfit even when using the same piece. Creativity is key.

Hope you like it! I would love to see some of your ideas!

Why fashion repeats itself?

Hello, hello!

You know that I always tell you that fashion is not static, but the opposite — it evolves and then comes back again. Well, today I decided to explain in detail the reason why this happens, my personal perception. And teach you how we can recycle the past trends and use them in our favor.

I’m sure you have heard your mom saying, “I used to have one of those when I was younger,” Or even inherit some of her old clothing pieces. I know I have! There is a black and white blouse that I absolutely love, and every time I wear it people ask me where did I get it from. Funny, right?

This happens because fashion follows a cycle. During the seasonal runways, several styles and trends are being introduced to the public. This is the initial phase where the clothing pieces are presented for the first time. This stage is key because designers are waiting for the public’s response, and they want to see if their proposal was liked or not. In most cases, it is liked, even loved, so the game begins — we go into the second stage.

Now, the demand increases, the sales are higher, and the prices go up too. Suddenly, there are popular trends and styles that everybody wants to wear. Of course, adding our own personal glow; you know what I’m talking about. Once the peak has been reached, the trend goes down, and sales decrease until the pieces following that trend are taken out of the market. People got bored of them, or they simply were not IN anymore.

This stage is just a part of the process, nothing personal. But don’t worry, eventually, the same trend that was once forgotten will rise again. Now, a new cycle begins and a new trend is introduced. The market never stops — like a clock.

Since I know this, and I know that everything that goes away comes again, I don’t throw any of my old clothes. I rather keep it for later. That’s what I call recycling! Instead of buying the same shirt or short that I used to have but got rid of it, I save it until I can use it again. Don’t get me wrong. I’m always trying to add new and innovative clothing pieces to my wardrobe, but always things that I have NEVER shopped before.

I like to combine the old trends with the new ones and create a totally different look. It may result in an avant-garde outfit or an extravagant boho attire. Who knows? Always stay creative. That’s the best advice I can give you. Don’t limit yourself to textures nor colors. Play around! Have fun!

Here’s a challenge. Grab a clothing piece from your closet and create three different looks with the same piece. Let’s see how creative you can be!

Next week I’ll show you mine!
