Miami Spice Just Arrived

I am eager to tell you that Miami Spice just began! Every year in the months of August and September, the most trendy and exquisite Miami restaurants offer a three-main-course menu featuring popular dishes at reduced prices. The brunch and lunch cost $23 and dinner $39.

There are more than 200 restaurants participating in the Miami Spice.

How can you make the best decision and try the most delicious dishes?

I have created a list of the top 3 restaurants that are worth to visit for the three occasions: brunch, lunch, and dinner. Let’s take a look at them!

SeaSpice

I have always been a fan of this place because of its fun atmosphere! Sunday brunches in Sea Spice are a day party that never stops. However, this time I went for the food. Let’s check what I ordered.

For the appetizers, we had the tomato and yellow pepper gazpacho, and the plantains wrapped in bacon filled with chorizo. Yes, you read well. Filled with CHORIZO. My boyfriend is a food lover; he just loves to try new things and experience different flavors. That’s why he chose the plantains. And guess what? They tasted incredible! The sweet and salty combination was delicious. He likes to call it the newer version of dates wrapped in bacon – an iconic appetizer of the Pubbelly Station. They both have that bittersweet contrast but with a different texture.

For the main platter, we both had the truffle ravioli with gorgonzola and pear. This combination is one of my favorites in the world. It’s like an explosion of flavors melting in my mouth. The rich aroma of the cheese and pears was hard to resist. Together, they produce a taste unlike any other.

The size of this plate is a little small. Ravioli servings usually have five to six pieces. But with dessert, you should be satisfied. We had a peach and champagne cold cake, and a mango mouse with a touch of basil and crumbled cookies on top. Both of them were a delicious selection. Our favorite was the mouse!

SeaSpice participates in the Miami Spice in the following days. For brunch, Saturdays and Sundays. For lunch and dinner, from Tuesdays to Fridays.

Komodo

Komodo features an Asian-modern-fusion cuisine with outdoor eateries and a Brickell-type nightlife experience. This delicious restaurant participates in the Miami Spice from Mondays to Fridays for lunch and dinner.

For the lunch menu, Komodo offers five appetizer options which include edamame, shrimp tempura, and watercress and calamari salad. I recommend the colorful salads. They are both refreshing and full of flavor; perfect for the summertime in Miami.

For the main entree, my two favorite options are the salmon bowl with kale and red quinoa, and the tahini chicken with peppers and peanuts. Since I am a salmon lover and a fan of the Asian cuisine, this bowl blew my mind. However, the tahini sauce with the peanut touch made this chicken one in a million. They are both mouthwatering selections, especially for those who like this type of season.

Since the hot weather in Miami is more powerful than ever, gelato is always a good option for dessert. The texture was soft and creamy. It comes in three different flavors: green apple, blueberry, and raspberry.

Kiki On The River

Located in the Miami Downtown area, this modern-greek-cuisine restaurant offers a wide selection of mouthwatering dishes and an amazing view of the river to be enjoyed from its garden-like setting with a glass of wine. Kiki participates in the Miami Spice from Monday to Friday at dinner time and changes its menu every week.

For appetizers, the restaurant offers both cold and hot dishes with five different options. Since I went with my boyfriend, we got to choose two appetizers. He chose the marinated octopus, and I chose the Greek grilled cheese platter with a side of salad. The octopus was tender and grilled to perfection; its flavor was out of this world. I highly recommend it. On the other side, the cold appetizer was tasty and refreshing. As you may know, Greek cheeses have a strong flavor and hard consistency. This exquisite selection combined with the raw veggies made this plate, one to remember.

For the main course, we had the t-bone savory lamb steak and the roasted rosemary chicken with spices. I must say that my favorite was the lamb. Cooked medium, tasted delicious with lemon roasted potatoes. The chicken was also a good selection. The Mediterranean touch gave it an amazing flavor.

We had pistachio baklava for dessert – one of my boyfriend’s favorite. The puff pastry was crispy and sweet. The last layer was full of pistachio and melted caramel. And yes, it tasted as good as it sounds. If you are a fan of Mediterranean cuisine and romantic views, Kiki on the river is MUST visit!

I hope you like it, and I encorague you to enjoy of this annually event! Great food cannot be missed!

Denim & Street Style

Hello, hello!

I don’t know if you have realized but maxi dresses and maxi skirts are taking the streets. More than that, the denim trend is still IN and it has many variations. Jean skirts are everywhere this summer, and I must admit that I’m obsessed with that trend. I find it super chic and easy to wear.

IMG_0009

Guess what? The outfit that I prepared for you today has a denim maxi skirt! The moment I saw this fabulous skirt, I fell for it. I loved the triangular opening in the center, best part… it’s high waist! Sounds too good to be true, right? hahaha but it’s true. Promise! Then, I combined it with a wine violet bodysuit with a low cut in the back. The nicest detail of this piece is the little aperture that has at the bottom.

Getting into the accessories. I chose a pair of Katherine Cordero’s earrings and a classic brown belt to make some contrast. Katherine Cordero’s jewelry is one of a kind. She makes hand-crafted pieces with a cultural background. If you don’t know her work, don’t worry. I will tell you every single detail of her career and her collections in a new category that I’m planning to open SOON.

For the shoes, I chose a pair of gray wedges to make an entrance from bottom to top. This type of heels is a great to enhance the appearance of the legs. They make the legs look toned.

I like this outfit because it’s casual and different. The contrast between the dark colors and the light denim is visually appealing and attracts attention immediately. I hope you find it inspirational and come up with different street style outfits!

Be creative, girls! Never forget that. The sky is the limit!

Who Said that Runway Outfits Were Out of Reach?

The Miami Fashion Week took place a few weeks ago, and the Swim Week is about to start. So I decided to compile some of the trends that I saw on the runways, especially the proposals of Custo Barcelona and Shantall Lacayo. And there’s nothing that I enjoy most than observing other girls’ outfits to get some inspiration. As I told you before, white is a color that you cannot take out of your sight this summer. One of the outfits that I liked consisted of a white high-waist skirt with a white cropped top and a long gray open shirt combined with a pair of black stilettos. Since that kind of fashion is usually considered a luxury – way too expensive for our recent graduate’s wallet – I came up with a budget-friendly outfit that follows that concept.

Let’s check it out!

IMG_0727.jpg

As you can see, the cropped top is a crochet type piece, which is really IN this season. Accompanied by a white “skort” – a skirt/short – and a pair of heels made of a colorful fabric. The pieces are pretty similar to the original outfit so you can get the essence of the style.

I got the crochet cropped top from Tiger Mist, an Australian online boutique. Lucky me, I bought it for $30 during a sale. The bottom I got it from Akira, a Chicago-based shopping store. This “skort” was even a better deal. I purchased it for $25.  And last but not least, I bought the heels in Steve Madden.

IMG_0787

This is just an example of how we can adopt runway trends and outfits in different ways without going bankrupt. The style is owned girls, not purchased.

Hope you find this helpful!

And stay tuned. I’ll bring inside details of Miami Swim Week!!

Much love.

Road Trip: Hopping three cities in a row

Remember last’s week post? The three options that I suggested for Memorial Weekend? Well, today I’ll share my choice — the road trip!

There is nothing more exciting than a road trip. The beautiful landscapes, the wind caressing my face and that feeling of anxiety in the pit of my stomach.

The first city I visited was Saint Augustine — the oldest city in the USA. St. Augustine is covered by a blanket of pink flowers and red tile roofs. Its architecture is from the Spanish colonial period; there are cathedrals, museums, and even a castle! The San Marcos Castle. That was my first stop.

When I stepped foot on the suspension bridge of the castle, I was amused. The view of the castle and the Matanzas Bay was out of this world. I had never seen such a blue sky. On the outside, the castle looked like a fort. It was built with stones placed on top of each other. On the other hand, the interior was hollow. The castle had a large courtyard in the center, and the rooms were located on the sides. In addition, there was a second floor with a wonderful view. The canons were launched from the top of the castle during that period.

Once I finished visiting the castle,  I went to walk the place. There were tons of little restaurants and shops on the streets of St. Augustine. Everything looked so local, so cozy, very European. For lunch, I had the opportunity to eat in “The Columbia,” one of the most famous restaurants over there. This place captured my heart in the moment that I entered. It is literally a colonial house with tons of tables and chairs. It has a huge patio with a fountain in the center; I was lucky enough to sit there.

I spent the night in Jacksonville. The jazz festival was taking place at that moment in the main area of the city. The music was great. I must say that Jacksonville surprised me. This city has views that take your breath away. Especially during the night; all the lights from the huge buildings reflect on the river and create an awesome landscape.

IMG_6429

Next stop: Savannah! Savannah is a city full of history. The best part is that all the locals work hard to keep the historic side intact. Next to some bus stations, there are tiny horse figures that used to indicate the parking places for the horses — during that period horses were the means of transportation.

Walking around the place, I saw a French cafe located at the end of a black bridge. Cafe M is a little French coffee shop that offers a huge variety of croissants, quiches, macarons, and New Yorkers’ favorite, CRONUTS. The main area of Savannah is River Street. It has plenty of local restaurants, bars, and shops with an exceptional view of the river. Over there, the Georgia Queen Cruise departs. This is a cruise tour around the city that offers lunch, dinner, and brunch.

Moreover, The Bohemian is a five-stars hotel with a rooftop bar. I am from Miami, what can you expect? I’m always down for wonderful views and breathtaking experiences. Another thing that I LOVED about Savannah was the green color. There is green everywhere. Savannah counts with 24 squares with huge green trees, flowers, and fountains. My favorite one was the Forsyth Park. This is a great place to jog or set up a picnic and relax.

IMG_6504

Before driving back to Miami, I stopped in Saint Augustine for the second time. I couldn’t leave without trying the local vodka and wine, right?

The Saint Augustine Distillery is a small business with huge potential. They make their own bourbon, vodka, rum, and whiskey. I went for a tasting, and I ended up learning how to prepare a Moscow mule — my boyfriend’s favorite drink and definitely mine to be.

img_6335.jpg

On the other hand, San Sebastian Winery offers 14 different wines and serves white, red, and rose. Lucky me, I had the opportunity to try eight of them! The wine tasting was amazing. They had citric, sweet, and dry wines. Every single one of them could be the perfect companion for a special meal. Also, they gave us crackers to clear the previous flavors in our tongue and be able to taste the wine properly. Everything was well prepared. It was an awesome experience. Just careful on your way out, you might be a little tipsy after a few glasses.

This was the last stop of my fantastic weekend. The rest: five hours of driving with good company and great music.

Hope you like it!

Metallic & Movement

IC3A4501.jpg

Hello, hello!

I hope you’re all doing well. Today’s outfit represents one of my favorite trends: gold and silver. I don’t know if you have noticed, but 2016 is not over, not just yet. Those who were able to see the runways during fall 2016 probably know that the silver-gold trend is still on point. That’s why I decided to incorporate it into my look.

In addition, the maxi dresses have been IN for months, and I have the hunch that they will remain a little longer. This outfit is risky and glamorous; let’s get into it!

First of all, the maxi dress is made of a silky fabric in a silver color. The under-knee dresses are everywhere now. They are a great and simple option to create an elegant and different outfit. Here, I played with the accessories. Since I wanted to create a contrast between silver and gold, I added the gold chain belt. This item not only enhanced my waistline but also highlighted the dress. Enhancing the silhouette is always a good idea. We are women; we have curves naturally. The key is learning how to be sexy without being tacky.

IC3A4513.jpg

Long earrings are back! This piece was a protagonist in the runways. The crystal earrings are a must have during the spring season. I use long earrings when I want to highlight the shape of my face – my cheekbones for instance. When using this piece, I do not recommend to wear necklaces; we may wear a simple thin choker, but I prefer the belt as the partner piece.

IC3A4533.jpg

For the final touch, I wore a pair of “Gladiator” heels. Why? Because I wanted to create a different outfit, not something that you see everywhere. Since all the clothing pieces of my look were elegant, I challenged myself to make it urban, more casual. So these heels came to my mind. We all know that the gladiator trend has been a total success. Now, there are gladiator heels instead of sandals… who would have thought that? Anyways, the point here is that the heels make the outfit pop up. When you look at it from head to toes, you see an unexpected addition. I could have played on the safe side and have grabbed a regular pair of heels, but I didn’t. Avant-garde styles are my favorites. From my perspective, mixing and combining styles are key in fashion.

IC3A4575

You are allowed to use everything that is within your reach to stand out. Fashion is not static; it evolves. Feel free to use and reuse any trend you like. In my case, I choose metallic and movement. That’s how I make them look twice!

The Streets are Full of Silk

Today, I wanted to talk to you about the lingerie trend, and how we can incorporate it into our wardrobe.

angi2.jpg

Most of you might be thinking, “Whaat? There’s no way I’m going to wear a silk camisole or a lingerie bra. She must be out of her mind!” But trust me, you will.

The streets are full of lingerie pieces. Now, women wear their underwear as outwear. Some of them use a black bra over a white t-shirt, others use transparent pieces with flamboyant brass, and the list keeps on and on.

I have personally decided to try this trend by wearing a silky body, a wavy short and a pair of silver boots. On the other hand, my beautiful friend is wearing a lingerie bra with a furry vest and a pair of jeans. The latest outfit is urban and casual… and sexy.

The color that prevails in my outfit is the black, so I played with the shapes, cuts, and necklines of the clothing pieces in order to make it interesting and different. As it can be seen, the body has a “V” neck shape with a low cut in the back, the short has multiple waves on both sides, and the jacket has a cut at the shoulders height. It seems like the clothing pieces belong together; more than that, they complement each other. This is a great way to keep the monochromatic and minimalist trend on point without being predictable.

Moreover, the silver boots with a zipper in the middle give a retro style to the look; zippers were a characteristic element in fashion during the 80’s. Boots are an amazing addition to this look. Why? Because they cover a partial part of the legs, which makes them look longer and more stylized. This outfit can be worn for a drinks night – ending up at a nightclub – or for any semi-casual occasion.

Then, there is the second outfit. Since a lingerie bra cannot be worn by itself, we decided to add some life to it. And the best way to do this is by mixing textures. The furry vest is a great alternative to give volume to the look and create movement. Now, the outfit is much more vivid! Also, jeans are always an amazing alternative when we want to keep our look casual. Since jeans are tight, they recreate the silhouette of the legs to perfection making us look slimmer. Here, the black tip shoes are the final touch! This type of shoes is elegant and goes well with almost everything. And when I say everything, I mean it!

angi1.jpg

Now, it seems like we will need to find a more accurate name for underwear because lately it has not been used underneath… If you know what I’m talking about.
