Denim & Street Style

Hello, hello!

I don’t know if you have realized but maxi dresses and maxi skirts are taking the streets. More than that, the denim trend is still IN and it has many variations. Jean skirts are everywhere this summer, and I must admit that I’m obsessed with that trend. I find it super chic and easy to wear.

Guess what? The outfit that I prepared for you today has a denim maxi skirt! The moment I saw this fabulous skirt, I fell for it. I loved the triangular opening in the center, best part… it’s high waist! Sounds too good to be true, right? hahaha but it’s true. Promise! Then, I combined it with a wine violet bodysuit with a low cut in the back. The nicest detail of this piece is the little aperture that has at the bottom.

Getting into the accessories. I chose a pair of Katherine Cordero’s earrings and a classic brown belt to make some contrast. Katherine Cordero’s jewelry is one of a kind. She makes hand-crafted pieces with a cultural background. If you don’t know her work, don’t worry. I will tell you every single detail of her career and her collections in a new category that I’m planning to open SOON.

For the shoes, I chose a pair of gray wedges to make an entrance from bottom to top. This type of heels is a great to enhance the appearance of the legs. They make the legs look toned.

I like this outfit because it’s casual and different. The contrast between the dark colors and the light denim is visually appealing and attracts attention immediately. I hope you find it inspirational and come up with different street style outfits!

Be creative, girls! Never forget that. The sky is the limit!

Why fashion repeats itself?

Hello, hello!

You know that I always tell you that fashion is not static, but the opposite — it evolves and then comes back again. Well, today I decided to explain in detail the reason why this happens, my personal perception. And teach you how we can recycle the past trends and use them in our favor.

I’m sure you have heard your mom saying, “I used to have one of those when I was younger,” Or even inherit some of her old clothing pieces. I know I have! There is a black and white blouse that I absolutely love, and every time I wear it people ask me where did I get it from. Funny, right?

This happens because fashion follows a cycle. During the seasonal runways, several styles and trends are being introduced to the public. This is the initial phase where the clothing pieces are presented for the first time. This stage is key because designers are waiting for the public’s response, and they want to see if their proposal was liked or not. In most cases, it is liked, even loved, so the game begins — we go into the second stage.

Now, the demand increases, the sales are higher, and the prices go up too. Suddenly, there are popular trends and styles that everybody wants to wear. Of course, adding our own personal glow; you know what I’m talking about. Once the peak has been reached, the trend goes down, and sales decrease until the pieces following that trend are taken out of the market. People got bored of them, or they simply were not IN anymore.

This stage is just a part of the process, nothing personal. But don’t worry, eventually, the same trend that was once forgotten will rise again. Now, a new cycle begins and a new trend is introduced. The market never stops — like a clock.

Since I know this, and I know that everything that goes away comes again, I don’t throw any of my old clothes. I rather keep it for later. That’s what I call recycling! Instead of buying the same shirt or short that I used to have but got rid of it, I save it until I can use it again. Don’t get me wrong. I’m always trying to add new and innovative clothing pieces to my wardrobe, but always things that I have NEVER shopped before.

I like to combine the old trends with the new ones and create a totally different look. It may result in an avant-garde outfit or an extravagant boho attire. Who knows? Always stay creative. That’s the best advice I can give you. Don’t limit yourself to textures nor colors. Play around! Have fun!

Here’s a challenge. Grab a clothing piece from your closet and create three different looks with the same piece. Let’s see how creative you can be!

Next week I’ll show you mine!

A Spring Look You Won’t Want to Miss

IC3A4329

Spring 2017 is the season in which you make your own statement! The ‘80s style adoption persists. We still see the inclusion of bright colors, such as red, fuchsia, yellow, electric blue and green, with a variety of folds, pompous sleeves, lots of layers, and different textures.

The greatest thing about trends is that you can mix and match as much as you want! So if you feel like having a sophisticated look or one that is more punk – ‘80s related – this is your moment.

I put together an outfit mixing some of these trends. The first piece of my look was a white cropped top from Zara’s Spring 2016 collection. As I mentioned in my previous posts, the minimalist and monochromatic fashion is still IN, and I believe it will remain a little longer. Then, I decided to play around with the pompous feature, so I included the red pants with a wide boot. The wide boot is being utilized again, especially in jeans. Nowadays, the skinny jeans are not as fashionable as before. What’s trending now is MOVEMENT.

To get more into details, I added a gold chain belt that not only gives to my look a sophisticated touch but also enhances my waist line. An essential element of the ‘80s look is to highlight the women’s silhouette. This can be done by wearing belts or by using dresses and skirts at waist height. Also, it’s important to be consistent with the accessories. In this case, I matched the chain belt with my earrings and rings. The three pieces followed the same style and shared the same color palette.

Moreover, the sky-high stilettos are a MUST HAVE piece for this season. Yves Saint Laurent took possession of this feature during the fashion week; the heels were out of this world. For this outfit, I used a pair of gold-platinum heels that also have a black strip surrounding my ankle. This detail enhances the shape of the legs; it’s basically the same effect that belts have on waistlines. I frequently ask myself, “What would I like to enhance or highlight today?” This question helps me to narrow down my options and facilitates my decision. In a matter of seconds, I already know what trends and accessories I want to use.

This look is simple, monochromatic and sophisticated. It can be worn for many occasions, such as cocktail parties, drinks night, and even to go clubbing. Remember that you are the one who sets your own style. Don’t limit yourself. Make your own statement and make them look TWICE!
