4 Do-it-yourself Makeovers

Do you remember when I told you that Mondays are for fresh starts? Well, what about if we begin with ourselves? Nowadays, we women tend to feel that we don’t look pretty enough, or that we have gained weight, or we simply are bored of our physical appearance. But let me tell you something. Even when you feel that way, you are still beautiful. You may only need a little improvement or something that highlights your natural beauty.

That’s why today I bring you 4 ways to do a complete makeover! These budget-friendly tips can be easily applied in the comfort of your home, and as a result, you will feel confident and beautiful again!

Let’s begin!

1. Get some GLOW!

Shiny hair is one of the best attributes a woman can have. If you are looking to make a subtle but nice change to your hair, the John Frieda Clear Shine Luminous Glaze is the answer (you can purchase it at Walmart for $7.49)! Use it after applying your shampoo. It works quickly and lasts approximately a week. I recommend to use it with moderation because contains silicon.

2. Add a little makeup!

I have always been the type of girl who thinks that less is more when it comes to makeup usage. In my opinion, makeup should be used to enhance your natural beauty, not to make you look like somebody else. You can apply illuminator on your cheek bones, nose, and upper lip to highlight your facial features. Also, I’m a true believer that mascara and eyelash curlers are the best tools to make your eyes pop up! Finally, add a different color of lips to your palette. This will make you look different and give your outfit a nice touch.

3. Back to basics!

One of the latest trends in nail beauty is the usage of acrylics with a triangular shape. Also, the glitter and nail art are widely used these days. I must say that I’m not a fan of this trend, I rather get a manicure on my own nails. I believe that classic colors like nude, red wine tones and French style look more elegant and sophisticated. So maybe once in a while, we can alternate between both to get a fresh a look.

4. Change your skincare routine!

Most times we stick to one line of products to clean our skin, and that’s totally fine. The problem is when we use the same routine for a skin that has developed other necessities. By this, I mean that weather changes, hormones, our period, are factors that can alter the appearance of our skin. So once in a while, it’s recommendable to get a skincare analysis and see in which conditions our skin is. There are websites such as SkinCarebyAlana and Kielh’s that do skin analysis for free! And if you are feeling creative and looking for natural and organic skincare products, take a look at How to Make Your Own Skincare Routine at Home. I made a step-by-step guide explaining you everything!

Feel free to add comments or ideas of different makeover tips! I would love to hear what you think.

Beauty wasn’t born in an operating room; you were born beautiful. Your beauty is a reflection of yourself. NEVER FORGET THAT.

If you want to reinvent yourself one day, just do a natural makeover!

Cleaning our makeup brushes is a MUST

Did you know that makeup brushes contain a certain level of bacteria? And every time we use them, the bacteria and dirt are accumulating and contaminating our makeup? Well, now you know.

A study made by Dr. Andrew Summerfield at BioCote revealed that there was heavy contamination on a tested makeup brush by a bacteria called Staphylococcus aureus. This bacteria ‘“is capable of causing a variety of skin associated diseases, such as boils and [acne].”’ Moreover, ‘“Staphylococcus aureus can [also] be the cause of much more serious diseases such as endocarditis, bacteremia, and pneumonia.”’

Now, the question is: how can we prevent this from happening? The answer is simple; we need to learn HOW to clean our brushes properly and do it as part of our daily routine.

There exist multiple cleansers for brushes. We could use a bar soap and rub the brushes directly onto it after we use them, or buy one portable at Sephora. Moreover, Beau Nelson, a celebrity makeup artist, recommends a dish cleanser (Dawn, Palmolive) for synthetic brushes because it stops the cosmetics oils from staying in the brushes. We could also enhance this routine by washing them with shampoo! All we need to do is pour the shampoo into a bowl and dip one brush at a time. Since foundations are harder to wash off, we should dip them a little longer. In addition, lip brushes tend to accumulate heavy pigments and oils, which is why Hung Vanngo, The Wall Group’s makeup artist, recommends to wash them with The Master Brush Cleaner & Preserver because it can strip off the oils. We can find this item on Amazon for $5.38!

Once we have applied these cleansers, we must wash the brushes with cold water because hot water may damage the metal bristles from the brushes. Another key element here is HOW we let our brushes to dry; it’s important to let them dry naturally and lay them down on a paper towel, in that way the paper towel will absorb everything.

The following step refers to storage our makeup brushes. Most of us tend to keep them in the bathroom, which is actually not the best idea because water vapor and humidity create the perfect environment for bacteria to reproduce. The safest way to keep our brushes is by exhibiting them in a glass or plastic container in a dry room.

I know that this is not a fun task, but we MUST do it. From now on, cleaning our brushes will be a MUST in our daily beauty routine, right?
